Thank You to Our Amazing Undergraduates This research would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our undergraduate team. From harvesting and drying hemp to maintaining clonal colonies and transplanting plants, your contributions have been invaluable. You've helped with insect herbivory sampling, soil moisture experiments, and more, gaining hands-on experience in hemp cultivation, insect identification, and data collection, as well as preparation of hemp samples for extraction and analysis on LC-MS.Your enthusiasm and commitment have played a crucial role in advancing our research, and I am incredibly grateful for your efforts.
Thank you for being an essential part of this journey!
Please see the following for current opportunities.
Hemp-Lepidopteran Feeding Experiments First, we prepare an artificial diet mixed with compounds previously extracted from hemp. Lepidopteran caterpillars (~280 individuals) are first weighed then placed on the diet after they have matured to their third instar. Daily, the caterpillars are monitored for survival; if any die, both the caterpillars and their remaining food are weighed and recorded. Periodically, we clean their containers, add fresh food, and record the weight of the added food. Molting is also recorded. Skills Learned: Basic protocols for lepidopteran feeding experiments, including using an analytical scale, recording data, and identifying instars. Dates: September-March Location: UNR Main Campus
