Tutoring Ethos: My approach to tutoring centers on restoring confidence and unlocking unrealized potential by rebuilding students’ relationships with learning. Tutoring is a distinct practice from teaching: it is precise, individualized, and explicitly focused on how a student learns, not just what they are learning. Many students seek tutoring after experiencing failure, ineffective instruction, or frustration that has eroded their confidence.
I create a supportive, non-performative environment where mistakes are expected, effort is valued, and progress is measured against personal growth rather than comparison to others. Together, we set clear, meaningful goals—both for immediate sessions and long-term mastery—while emphasizing learning how to learn through deliberate practice, reflection, and retrieval. My role is not remediation, but acceleration: identifying gaps, strengthening foundational skills, and equipping students with the tools to become independent, self-directed learners.
When a student says, “I can’t do this,” we add one word--yet—and build forward from there.

Tutoring Services & Subject Areas
I offer both in-person tutoring in the Reno area and remote sessions via Zoom, providing flexible options to meet students where they are. Drawing on my extensive teaching and instructional experience at the University of Nevada, Reno, I tutor a range of college-level courses, including introductory biology and chemistry, ecology, evolution, environmental science, and geology.
I also provide targeted support for UNR students enrolled in courses I have previously taught, including Evolution (BIOL 415), Principles of Biological Investigation Lab (BIOL 192), and related upper-division biology coursework. Sessions are designed to support concept mastery, problem-solving, exam preparation, and development of effective study strategies. Tutoring sessions are billed with a one-hour minimum, with additional time available in 15-minute increments. Scheduling is flexible, and I work collaboratively with students to accommodate individual learning needs, timelines, and academic goals.
